THE REALITY OF ANGELS

September 24, 2024

Bless the Lord, you His angels, mighty in strength, who perform His word, obeying the voice of His word! Psalm 103:20

ANGELS ARE REAL. I want to encourage you that God has angels on a mission to power-assist us through our lives. This scripture in Psalms shows that angels belong to God and that they bless Him and excel in strength. The Catholic church has an idea about a guardian angel assigned to each person. I don’t know that we have one specific angel – I have not found that to be clear in the scriptures. But what is clear are the numerous scriptures I have seen, that yes, there are angels, fallen angels, and demons. God has coordinated His faithful angels to fight for us and even occasionally to bring messages to us.

ANGELS ARE SENT TO PROTECT US.
My wife gave me a pendant from Jerusalem, and it has Hebrew writing in a circle from Psalm 91:11: “For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.” As you come and go from work, as you play, rest, and travel the highways and byways of life, God is covering you. Psalm 34:7 says, “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and rescues them.” Psalm 91 continues, “They will bear you up in their hands, That you do not strike your foot against a stone” (Verse 12). Even in the little stubbing of a toe, God cares and is there to watch over and protect us.

ANGELS ARE BATTLING IN THE SPIRIT.
Throughout the Bible, angels brought messages in key moments of human history. They are messengers, warriors, and protectors. When Daniel prayed while living in Persia – what is now modern-day Iran – an angel was sent to him. Along the way, another angel had to come help as both angels contended against evil forces in the spirit (Daniel 10:12-14). From my study of the Bible, it seems there are ranks of both angels and demons: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). Our battle is not against people but in the spirit, and the good news is that we have angels deployed to help us.

YOU MAY HAVE MET AN ANGEL.
“Let love of the brethren continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it” (Hebrews 13:1-2). While I do not want to be overly mystical, I also do not want to ignore what the scripture says. There may be occasions in life when we entertain angels without knowing it. It is a reminder for us to treat everybody elegantly and with respect.

ANGELS OBEY THE VOICE OF GOD’S WORD. When you speak God’s Word, recognize that while you are doing it, angels are responding to and activated by the Word of God. Let the words you say line up with what God says and speak His truth over your circumstances, over your family, over the nation you live in, and the government in place. God is so good that He would give us these “ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14). What a blessing. Thank you, God, for Your angels!

PRAY THIS PRAYER

Thank You, God, for sending angels, mighty in strength, who perform Your Word and obey the voice of Your Word! I know that my struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. You give Your angels charge concerning me, to guard me in all my ways. They will bear me up in their hands, that I do not strike my foot against a stone. I am covered in Jesus’ name. Amen! (Psalm 103:20; Ephesians 6:12; Psalm 91:11-12)

God bless you,
Pastor Jeff Perry
